PE and Sport

PE and Sport is very much embedded in to our life at Hayes Primary School, recognising the value and impact of high quality PE and school sport. At Hayes Primary School our PE Curriculum is diverse, providing all pupils with the confidence to try new activities as well as enhancing their existing skills in a range of environments. Moreover, we provide opportunities for all pupils to develop leadership, coaching and officiating skills. At Hayes Primary School we aim to provide all pupils with 2 hours of timetabled high quality PE a week.

Pupils at Hayes Primary School are able to access a broad range of school sport activities. Throughout the year they will learn: gymnastics, games, dance and athletics (KS1), netball, hockey, football, rounders, tennis and cricket (KS2). Swimming lessons are also offered in Year 4. An extensive range of sports is available, including opportunities for children with a special educational need. Numerous pupils represent the school and are part of community clubs that the school has links with. Pupil’s achievements are also celebrated and shared with parents, carers and the wider school community.

Competitive sport is also something we value highly at Hayes Primary School. We have recently achieved the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Mark and the Youth Sports Trust Silver Mark. Hayes Primary School regularly participate in competitive games and sports with other schools; both locally and sometimes regionally. Inter house competitions take place during curriculum time for Years 5 and 6.

Although competition beyond the school is important and supports collaborative team work, as well as enabling pupils to recognise their own strengths and evaluate their performance. The school’s overriding aim is to help all its pupils enjoy being active and to encourage them to use their creativity and imagination.

Healthy lifestyles are also very important to the ethos of Hayes Primary School. We encourage children to enjoy all physical activities and become aware of the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
