I am delighted to welcome you to the Hayes Primary School website. I hope it will give you a flavour of life at the school and a sense of what we value for our children and in our children.
Hayes Primary School is situated on the edge of the countryside and set in extensive grounds, it enjoys all the advantages of a city school whilst retaining its village character. The school prides itself on providing an excellent, broad and balanced curriculum and ensuring high standards in the core subject areas of Reading, Writing and Maths. In our relentless drive for excellence, our aim is that all pupils should develop as excellent learners, have excellent social and emotional skills and fulfil their potential.
The main building dates from 1937 but has its origins in the Hayes Church School, which was founded in 1792. The school badge depicts the emblem of St Mary's Church. The new building was completed in 2001. Housed in two single storey buildings, the school has two large and spacious halls and twenty-one classrooms. All of the classrooms open directly onto the grounds, which can be used for environmental studies and a wide range of sporting activities.
Our site offers great potential to the school as a whole. We have excellent resources and, following our transfer to Academy status on 1 June 2012, greater capacity to invest in new areas. The PTA have played a central role in helping us to develop an outstanding education for our children. They have supported us on a number of projects including the resourcing of iPads, establishing our Forest School and our latest project of redeveloping the outside learning environment for Early Years.
Our children have positive attitudes to learning, high standards of behaviour and excellent attainment across the curriculum. The school has supportive parents, carers, governors and inspiring, skilled teachers and excellent support staff. Pupils are provided with appropriate academic challenges and the breadth and quality of education beyond the core subjects is excellent. We employ specialist teachers for Music, MFL and PE.
We are extremely proud of the varied opportunities that are offered to pupils across the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities. The impressive range of extra-curricular activities are constantly changing and currently include cross country, korfball, hockey, drama, art, choir, orchestra, football, gymnastics, netball, athletics, tennis and homework club.
Our pupils have opportunities to learn through a wide range of educational visits and events, including residential trips in Year 4 and 6. There is a shared drive to constantly review, improve and enrich our curriculum to ensure learning is relevant and exciting for all pupils.
If you are in the process of applying for school places, please come and visit us on one of our Open Days. It is important that you see the school in action and get a sense of it ‘at work’; this will help you to make the important decision about your child’s primary school education.
We look forward to meeting you.
Mr N Vitarana, Headteacher
