Staff Profiles
Mrs Curzey
Mrs Curzey is our Year 4 Lead Teacher and brings an impressive 26 years of teaching experience to Hayes Primary School. She has been part of the Hayes team for the past four years and has a particular passion for English. Mrs Curzey loves working within her year group and values being part of such a supportive and collaborative team. She believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of the dedication of the staff, who all genuinely want the very best for every child and are a joy to work alongside. Inspired by a work experience placement in a primary school while she was still at secondary school, Mrs Curzey knew early on that teaching was where she could make a real difference. Outside of school, she enjoys singing in a community choir, reading, baking and spending time with her boys. She also has a creative side and enjoys making personalised craftwork. Her favourite book to share with children is The Boy at the Back of the Class, and her favourite school experience is Forest School. Mrs Curzey’s message to pupils and families is simple but powerful: always be the very best version of yourself.
Mrs Valentine
Mrs Valentine is a Year 6 class teacher at Hayes Primary School and has been teaching at the school for 11 years. She leads mathematics across the school and also has a strong passion for PE. Mrs Valentine particularly enjoys bringing learning to life through high-quality texts and loves reading Private Peaceful with her class, exploring the themes of the story and learning about the war alongside it. Outside of school, she enjoys running and spending time with her family. A fun fact about Mrs V is that she used to play a lot of tennis and even had the opportunity to practise on the courts at Wimbledon. Her favourite school experiences include the PGL trip to Bawdsey Manor and the Macbeth workshop. Mrs Valentine’s message to pupils and families is inspired by Wonder: when given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.
Mrs Swain
Mrs Swain is a Year 3 teacher and the school’s EAL Lead. She has 25 years of teaching experience, with a short break while her children were young, and is currently in her fourth year at Hayes Primary School. Mrs Swain particularly enjoys teaching Science and Art and is passionate about supporting EAL learners and their families. She loves working in Key Stage 2, where children are becoming increasingly independent and confident, and finds great joy in seeing their personalities develop. Mrs Swain believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of its strong sense of community, the clear focus on children’s wellbeing and the benefit of having such wonderful school grounds. She was inspired to become a teacher by the variety the role offers and the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects, knowing that no two children or classes are ever the same. Outside of school, she enjoys walking her dog, meeting friends and gardening. A fun fact about Mrs Swain is that she has an identical twin sister. Her favourite book to share with children is The Mermaid and the Red Candle, a traditional Japanese folk tale, and she particularly enjoys the art workshops run by Dulwich Picture Gallery. Her message to pupils and families is simple and empowering: stand up for what you believe in.
Mrs Gouldsmith
Mrs Gouldsmith is a Year 4 Class Teacher and brings 24 years of teaching experience to Hayes Primary School. She has been part of the Hayes team for the past two and a half years and has particular passions for PE, Art and Science. Mrs Gouldsmith loves teaching Science because it engages all learners, including those who think laterally, and helps children see that Science is all around them and accessible to everyone. She also values Art as a space where children can express themselves freely without fear of making mistakes, and enjoys the energy and movement that PE brings, particularly for pupils who find classroom-based learning more challenging. Mrs Gouldsmith believes Hayes Primary is a nurturing and supportive environment where every child matters and is encouraged to reach their full potential. She was originally inspired to become a teacher through her love of sport and the opportunity to inspire children as a PE specialist, and she continues to teach for the joy of seeing the moment when learning truly ‘clicks’. Outside of school, she enjoys playing sports, including tennis, netball and jogging, and is also a qualified ski instructor. Her favourite book to share with children is The Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar, and she particularly enjoys the Year 4 Christingle Concert. Mrs Gouldsmith’s message to pupils and families is encouraging and uplifting: you will find something you sparkle and shine in—never give up and keep believing in yourself.
Mrs Woolley
Mrs Woolley is a Year 6 teacher and has been teaching at Hayes Primary School for seven years. She has a particular passion for reading and phonics and loves seeing children grow in confidence as readers, from first blending sounds and words to becoming fluent readers who enjoy longer books. Mrs Woolley believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of the strong, supportive staff team who are always willing to do whatever it takes to help the children succeed. She was inspired to become a teacher during sixth form, when she taught a Year 6 lesson as part of her Biology course and discovered how much she enjoyed working in the classroom. Outside of school, Mrs Woolley enjoys spending time with her little boy and taking part in Bounce classes. Her favourite book to share with children is The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton, a story she loved as a child herself. Her favourite events in the school calendar are the nativities and Christmas carol concerts, which showcase just how hard the children work.
Mr Gwilliam
Mr Gwilliam is a Year 5 teacher and the PE Lead for both Hayes Primary School and the Spring Trust. He has been teaching for 10 years and joined Hayes Primary in January 2022. Mr Gwilliam loves teaching Year 5, particularly as pupils become more independent and develop their sense of humour, making learning both engaging and enjoyable. He believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of the staff, the children and the school’s extensive grounds. Mr Gwilliam was inspired to become a teacher through his aunt, who was also a teacher, and admits that watching the film Nativity helped convince him that teaching could be great fun. Outside of school, he is kept busy by his six-month-old son. Before teaching, he worked in television covering horse racing and football, and still enjoys spectating sport whenever he can, as well as playing golf. His favourite book to share with children is Holes by Louis Sachar, and his favourite school trip is Bawdsey Manor, where he loves seeing children grow in confidence and make lifelong memories. Mr Gwilliam’s message to pupils and families is both motivating and reassuring: no matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.
Mrs Richards
Mrs Richards is a Year 5 teacher who job shares with Miss Knell and brings 25 years of teaching experience to Hayes Primary School. She has worked at Hayes for the past four years and plays an active role beyond the classroom. Mrs Richards is the school lead for the Travel Explore Ambassadors, promoting road safety and encouraging sustainable travel across the school community. She is also part of the Spring Trust Art and Design & Technology team, where she helps to design and develop creative curriculum projects, such as building bridges in Year 3 and sewing a pocket in Year 4. Mrs Richards particularly enjoys teaching Art and DT, valuing the freedom and enjoyment that creative subjects offer children. She believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because everyone works together as a team, with a shared commitment to achieving the very best for every child. Inspired by her own happy memories of primary school, especially school productions, Mrs Richards became a teacher to help children develop a lifelong love of learning. Outside of school, she enjoys travelling, particularly to South East Asia, plays tennis several times a week and is part of a pub quiz team. A few fun facts: she has run two marathons and previously worked at the British School in Tokyo for two years. Her favourite books to share with children include Little Rabbit Foo Foo by Michael Rosen in Key Stage 1 and There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar in Key Stage 2. She especially enjoys hearing the school choir sing and loves all things Christmas. Mrs Moreton
Mrs Moreton is the Year 3 Lead Teacher and also leads Music and Young Carers at Hayes Primary School. She has 17 years of teaching experience and has been part of the Hayes team for 13 years. Mrs Moreton has a particular passion for Music and English and enjoys helping children build confidently on their Key Stage 1 learning as they grow into successful Key Stage 2 writers and mathematicians. She believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of the close-knit staff team, who support one another to be the very best they can be for the children. Mrs Moreton was inspired to become a teacher by her own Reception teacher and knew from a very young age that teaching was the career for her. Outside of school, she enjoys listening to music, going to concerts and the theatre, reading and spending time in the garden. A memorable fun fact is that she once met the King when her class took part in an art project that was featured on the news. Her favourite books to share with children include I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen and The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd, and she especially loves anything Christmassy in the school calendar. Mrs Moreton’s message to pupils and families is a simple and powerful one: always be kind and fair to others.
Miss Constable
Miss Constable is a Year 5 teacher at Hayes Primary School and has six years of teaching experience. She has worked at Hayes for the past four years and leads Geography across the school, while also enjoying teaching Art and English. Miss Constable particularly values seeing the progress children make over the course of the year and finds it rewarding to support them as they grow in confidence and independence. Outside of school, she enjoys going to the gym, walking her dog and shopping. Her favourite book to share with children is Holes, which she loved reading with a Year 6 class, and her favourite school trip is Bawdsey Manor.
Mr Sieber
Mr Sieber is a class teacher at Hayes Primary School and has been teaching for 14 years, with 12 of those spent at Hayes. He leads Computing across the school and also has a strong passion for PE and mathematics. Mr Sieber particularly enjoys sharing high-quality texts with his class, reading them cover to cover and developing a genuine love of reading together. Outside of school, he enjoys watching live sport, especially Stoke City and England, as well as going to music gigs and festivals. A fun fact that always fascinates his classes is that he once worked at Alton Towers, and he also enjoys playing chess. His favourite book to share with children is Private Peaceful, and his favourite school trip is the Year 6 PGL visit to Bawdsey Manor. Mr Sieber’s message to pupils and families is clear and motivating: hard work beats raw talent every time.
Mrs Boorman
Mrs Boorman is a Year 3 class teacher and also leads PSHE, Young Carers and is part of the Sustainability team at Hayes Primary School. She has 15 years of teaching experience and has been part of the Hayes community for the past three years. Mrs Boorman has a particular passion for Forest School, phonics and reading, and also enjoys teaching Art and singing, valuing the opportunity these subjects give children to express themselves and build confidence. She loves teaching in Key Stage 2, especially seeing children grow in independence, work collaboratively and explore the thoughtful and challenging questions they ask across the wider curriculum. Mrs Boorman believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because it focuses on far more than just the curriculum, placing a strong emphasis on social development, resilience, kindness and compassion, and nurturing the whole child through rich and enjoyable experiences. She was inspired to become a teacher because she believes every child deserves the very best start in life, and sees school as the beginning of that important journey. Outside of school, she enjoys woodland walks, trips to the beach, playing games with her children and gardening. Her favourite books to share with children include The Wonky Donkey and David Walliams’ The World’s Worst… series. She particularly enjoys memorable experiences such as the Year 2 Space Immersion Day at Hayes and story workshops in London theatres. Mrs Boorman’s message to pupils and families reflects her inclusive outlook: every child has something they are brilliant at, and it is our job to find that genius, nurture it and show children that while we may not all be great at everything, together we are unstoppable.
Mrs Hannon
Mrs Hannon is an experienced Early Years teacher in Flamingo Class and has been part of the Hayes Primary School community since 2001, qualifying as a teacher at the age of 21. She brings 25 years of teaching experience to the role and is also the Spring Trust Art and Design & Technology Lead. Mrs Hannon has a real passion for teaching Art and for working in the Early Years, and finds great joy in being a child’s first teacher. She values the opportunity to support children and their families at the very start of their Hayes journey and describes teaching a child to read as one of the most rewarding parts of her role. Mrs Hannon believes Hayes Primary has a wonderful community feel and has enjoyed seeing the school grow and develop over the years. Having lived and worked in Hayes for decades, and with both of her children having attended and thrived at the school, she feels a strong personal connection to the community. She also loves meeting former pupils locally and hearing their fond memories of their time at Hayes. Outside of school, Mrs Hannon enjoys shopping, gardening and going to the theatre. She also has a caravan on the south coast and loves spending weekends at the beach with her family.
Miss Sullivan
Miss Sullivan is a Year 1 Class Teacher and Year Group Lead at Hayes Primary School. She is also part of the Rights Respecting team, a Sustainability Champion and the school Choir Leader. Miss Sullivan has 15 years of teaching experience and has taught across almost all year groups, with the majority of her experience in Year 1. She joined Hayes Primary two years ago. Miss Sullivan has a particular passion for Science and the environment and is currently halfway through a Master’s degree in Environmental Science with the Open University. She also enjoys teaching Art and Design & Technology. She loves teaching Year 1 and describes it as a magical stage of learning, where children develop resilience and independence, make rapid progress and approach each day with curiosity, joy and plenty of humour. Miss Sullivan believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of its supportive and collaborative culture, underpinned by a shared vision between staff, pupils and the wider school community. She values the commitment of staff who work tirelessly to ensure every child feels happy, supported and valued each day. She was inspired to become a teacher by her brother and the positive difference he made throughout his career, and later enjoyed inspiring him in return when he became a secondary school science teacher. Outside of school, Miss Sullivan enjoys spending time with friends and family, learning new things, taking part in quizzes and watching live shows. A fun fact is that she loves making and decorating cakes for friends and family, even though she doesn’t actually like eating cake herself. Her favourite books to share with children include titles by Julia Donaldson, as well as Oi Frog! and the related series by Kes Gray. She particularly enjoys the Godstone Farm trip. Miss Sullivan’s message to pupils and families reflects her passion for learning and sustainability: “Conservation comes from love, love from understanding, and understanding from teaching.”
Mrs Jones
Mrs Jones is a class teacher at Hayes Primary School and has been part of the school community for 18 years, having joined as a Newly Qualified Teacher and never left. She brings 18 years of teaching experience to her role and has a particular passion for Art and Design & Technology, alongside a strong interest in phonics. Mrs Jones loves the creativity and freedom that Art and DT offer and finds it incredibly rewarding to see children’s individuality and imagination come to life. She particularly values how these subjects help children connect their learning to the real world. Mrs Jones believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of its warm, friendly and community-focused atmosphere, something that is felt as soon as you walk through the door. She sees both the children and the staff as central to creating this positive environment. Inspired by her own brilliant teachers and a love of working with children, Mrs Jones knew teaching was the right career for her. Outside of school, she enjoys going to the theatre and eating out, when time allows. A light-hearted fun fact is that she likes to think she can sing and dance, although she admits this may not quite be true. Her favourite book to share with children is We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, especially because she loves acting out stories together. Her favourite events in the school calendar are the Christmas nativities, concerts and the Christingle. As both a member of staff and a parent at Hayes Primary, Mrs Jones describes the school as more than just a place of learning, but a caring community where children feel safe, supported and inspired to be their best.
Miss Ainsworth
Miss Ainsworth is a Year 4 class teacher at Hayes Primary School and is in her first year of teaching. She joined Hayes last academic year and has already made a positive impact within the Hayes Primary team. Miss Ainsworth has a particular passion for PE and enjoys seeing the children learn, develop and grow in confidence over the course of the year.
Miss Ainsworth believes Hayes Primary is a special place to learn because of its brilliant and supportive staff team. She was inspired to become a teacher after several years of coaching football, where she discovered how passionate she was about helping young people grow, develop and succeed.
Outside of school, Miss Ainsworth continues to enjoy coaching and watching football. Her favourite book to share with children is The Boy at the Back of the Class, as she values its powerful message about acceptance and making everyone feel welcome, regardless of their background. A highlight for Miss Ainsworth has been taking the Year 4 and Year 6 girls’ football teams to a local tournament, where every player gave their very best and represented the school brilliantly. Mrs Field
Mrs Field is the Assistant Headteacher at Hayes Primary School, as well as EYFS Lead and Trust English Lead. She is also a Specialist Leader in Education for Early Years. With 20 years of teaching experience, she has been part of the Hayes team since 2017 and previously taught in four London primary schools, including 11 years in Reception.
Mrs Field is passionate about English, particularly phonics and early reading, believing that strong literacy skills are the foundation for lifelong learning. Early Years is especially close to her heart, and she finds it incredibly rewarding to witness the rapid progress children make in their first year of school. She feels privileged to guide children as they begin their reading and writing journeys and develop a love of learning.
Mrs Field believes Hayes Primary is a special place because of the dedication of the staff team and the strong culture of collaboration that supports every child and family. Inspired by the positive impact of her own teachers, Mrs Field entered the profession to make the same difference in the lives of others.
Outside of school, Mrs Field enjoys spending time with her children and friends, running and organising. She particularly enjoys accompanying pupils on residential visits and seeing them flourish in new environments. A fun fact is that she began horse riding at the age of three and competed in show jumping and dressage until she was 17.
Mrs Howell
Mrs Howell is the Headteacher of Hayes Primary School and brings 25 years of teaching experience to her role. She joined Hayes three and a half years ago and is passionate about reading and phonics, particularly through the teaching of Read Write Inc. Mrs Howell finds it incredibly rewarding to teach children to read, from learning individual sounds to blending them together and eventually discovering the joy and pleasure that reading brings.
She believes Hayes Primary is a truly special place because of its wonderful children and the dedication of the staff team, who work tirelessly to support every pupil. Mrs Howell always knew she wanted to become a teacher and feels privileged to lead a school community where kindness, ambition and high expectations sit at the heart of everything.
Outside of school, she enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends and going on holidays. A fun fact is that her parents are Portuguese and she speaks Portuguese, although she admits not as well as she would like. Her favourite book to share with children is There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom, and she particularly enjoys the Christmas concerts, especially the Year 4 Christingle. Mrs Howell’s message to pupils and families is simple and heartfelt: be kind, always.
Mrs Savvides
Mrs Savvides is an EYFS Class Teacher at Hayes Primary School. She has 10 years of teaching experience, having previously worked as a Teaching Assistant for five years before qualifying as a teacher. Mrs Savvides joined Hayes in 2015 as a Newly Qualified Teacher and has been part of the school community ever since.
Mrs Savvides has a real passion for working in EYFS and Key Stage 1 and particularly enjoys welcoming families into school as children begin their learning journey. She values the opportunity to support children at the very start of their education and finds it rewarding to help them grow in confidence and curiosity.
Mrs Savvides believes Hayes Primary is a special place because of its strong and dedicated staff team, who always go the extra mile to ensure the very best for every child. She was inspired to become a teacher after volunteering in a school and discovering how much she loved helping children learn. She went on to complete a foundation degree, worked as a Teaching Assistant and then trained as a teacher.
Outside of school, Mrs Savvides enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends, especially visiting the beach. A fun fact is that she used to play hockey for her primary and secondary school teams, as well as for the Bromley Girls hockey team. She particularly enjoys sharing rhyming stories with children, encouraging them to join in with repeated phrases. In EYFS, one of her favourite events is welcoming the Minibeast Man into school to share a range of fascinating animals with the children. Mrs Savvides's message to children and families is both simple and inspiring: if you can dream it, you can do it.
