EYFS 

Autumn 1 - Fundamental Movements - Focus on using beanbags (Balancing, Carrying, Jumping, Aiming and Throwing and Catching)

  • Activities focus on listening to instructions and engage in activities.
  • Use space safely.
  • Travel and spring confidently on their feet in different ways. 
  • Name and use different parts of their bodies.
  • Use a range of small games equipment safely and with increasing control and confidence and to work sensibly and co-operatively with other children.

Autumn 2 - Movement to Music/Gymnastics

  • Perform basic dance and gymnastics using simple movement patterns to music.

Spring 1 - Fundamental Movement - Focus on using A Ball (Balancing, Carrying, Jumping, Aiming and Throwing and Catching)

  • Activities focus on being able to carry, strewer, dribble and receive a ball with increasing confidence and control.
  • Roll a ball accurately to a partner. 
  • Demonstrate an increase in develop co-ordination and accuracy when aiming at a target.
  • Change their way of travelling in a controlled manner and show an awareness of space and direction. Start and stop on a given signal
  • Follow the rules of a game or activity.
  • Share space and equipment safely with others.

Spring 2 - Fundamental Movement - Focus on using Ropes, Bats and Balls (Balancing, carrying, Jumping, Aiming and Throwing and Catching)

  • Activities focus on how to use a bat and ball in a safe, co-ordinated and controlled manner.
  • Steer a ball along the ground showing different speeds and directions.
  • Hit the ball along the ground to a partner.
  • Listen carefully to instructions and start and stop activities on a given signal.
  • Co-operate with others and take turns with equipment.

Summer 1 - Athletics

  • Combining all fundamental movements from the previous half terms.
  • Demonstrate some basic jumps and show very simple combinations
  • Move at different speeds with some control.
  • Demonstrate the underarm throw and the basic two-handed push throw.
  • Identify some different mays of travelling, jumping and throwing.

Summer 2 - Athletics/Sports Day Practice

  • Combining all fundamental movements from the previous half terms.

Year 1

Autumn 1 - Fundamental Movements - Focus on Throwing and Catching / Aiming games/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Activities focus on the exploration of fundamental movements  knowing and showing, both individually and in pair, how to throw and catch using a variety of apparatus.
  • Send a ball, beanbag or quoit one-handed, using under-arm throw, roll or kick.
  • Aiming consistently between, into, at or over a variety of targets using a range of equipment.
  • Understanding the concept of aiming games and how to make their games harder.
  • Play an aiming game co-operatively with a partner and "keep the score".

Autumn 2 - Movement to Music / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Perform simple dance sequences 

Spring 1 - Gymnastics / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Perform gymnastics using simple movement patterns.

Spring 2 - Fundamental Movements - Focus on skipping and bat/ball skills and games/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Demonstrate co-ordination when passing a ball around different part of the body.
  • Bounce and bounce pat a ball with a degree of control
  • Understand how to send, receive, kick and dribble a ball and practice to improve the skills
  • Show a degree of control when sending and receiving a range of equipment.
  • Demonstrate how to send a ball in various ways to play individual target games or target games with a partner.

Summer 1 - Chance to Shine Schools Cricket Programme/ Sports Day Practice/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Fielding Skills; Throwing, catching and moment with and without a ball. Developing throwing accuracy for underarm bowling.
  • Techniques for batting through developing striking action

Summer 2 - Athletics / Sports Day Practice/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Combining all fundamental movements from the previous half terms.
  • Demonstrates basic jumps and make up simple combinations with a partner.
  • Move at different speeds and change direction with a pivot action
  • Demonstrate the overarm throw and show increasing accuracy into targets.
  • Use skills developed to meet different challenges.
  • Explain what they have to do to perform better.

 Year 2

Autumn 1 - Throwing and Catching Inventing Games / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Throw, catch and bounce with two hands or one hand or different parts of the body using a variety of equipment.
  • Understand and use "beat your own record" activities to put skills under pressure and improve performance.
  • Throw, catch and bounce when in a stationary position or moving about the playing area and aiming at targets.
  • Understand and use a range of strategies for making games harder (e.g high/low, different directions, over the head, etc), how to make up rules and score points.

Autumn 2 - Movement to Music / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Perform simple movement to music sequences. 

Spring 1 - Gymnastics / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Perform simple gymnastics sequences using simple movement patterns.

Spring 2 - Jumping and running / Multi sports / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Movement directed towards more specific athletic purposes. Running speeds increase control over direction and ability to modify styles.
  • Activities focus on the exploration of fundamental movements using basic movement vocabularly using safe and enjoyable activities.
  • Master basic movements of running and jumping as well as developing balance, agility nd coordination.

Summer 1 - Chance to Shine Schools Cricket Programme/ Games / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Fielding Skills; Throwing, catching and movement with and without a ball.  Developing throwing accuracy for underarm bowling. 
  • Techniques for batting through developing striking action. 
  • Developing simple batting technique and tactics
  • Combining key skills of fielding, batting and bowling (underarm) and applying them in a game.

Summer 2 - Athletics /Sports Day Practice/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Combining all fundamental movements from the previous half terms.
  • Use various take-offs and landings to jump for height and distance.
  • Run to create an even pace
  • Demonstrate the underarm throw with accuracy and distance and use skills they have developed to meet different challenges.
  • Watch a partner and describe what they are doing.

Year 3

Autumn 1 - Ball Skills, Invasion Focus and Creative Game Making / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Focus on accurately pass and receive a range of balls in different ways with hands (e.g chest pass, bounce pass, shoulder pass and overhead pass).
  • Demonstrate control when dribbling, passing and receiving with feet or stick.
  • Signal for the ball and pass and receive in sequential order
  • Pass and receive on the move and signal for the ball to retain possession and show progression down the pitch.
  • Play with confidence in various small game formations (e.g 2v1, 3v1, 3v2, 2v2, 3v3 etc), and be able to explain why their team succeeded in these activities.

Autumn 2 -  Movement to Music/ Gymnastics / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

Spring 1 - Invasion Focus - Creative Games Making / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Demonstrate previously earned skills in independently constructed group games.
  • Work co-operatively and creatively in a group of specified numbers to achieve a given objective using limited choice of equipment.
  • Plan and adjust rules and strategies to make the game fairer, safer and more challenging.
  • Describe the format and intention of the game and explain why particular rules have been made.
  • Watch other games and recognise where they can be improved, know how to use space in games.

Spring 2 - Net/Wall/Court Games/ Cross country / Basketball / Volleyball / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Strike a ball with reasonable control and accuracy at a target or over a net.
  • Select and use appropriate basic shots in different situations.
  • Play confidently and competitively in small sided games (2v2 nd 3v3) and apply net principles ro other activities e.g volley ball
  • Know and use the rules and keep games going without dispute
  • Practice running longer distances at consistent pace.

Summer 1 - Chance to Shine Schools Cricket Programme / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Fielding skills; Throwing, catching and movement/agility and speed with and without a ball/running between the wickets.
  • Developing throwing accuracy for underarm bowling. Exploring start points for overarm bowl (for some). Technique and pitching accuracy.
  • Developing fielding and running between the wickets.
  • Techniques for batting through developing striking action.

Summer 2 -  Athletics / sports Day Practice/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Run at fast, medium and slow speeds and be able to change speed and direction.
  • Create their own patterns and link jumping activities with some fluency, control and consistency,
  • Confidently take part in a range of relay activities.
  • Throw a range of objects/equipment and understand that they can change their methods of throwing to be more accurate or throw further for distance.
  • Recognise when their heart rate, breathing and temperature have changed with activity.

Year 4
 

Autumn 1 - Invasion Games and Problem solving / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Play confidently in small sided invasion games using various formations (e.g 3v1, 3v2, 3v3, 4v4).
  • Use a range of techniques to pass and travel with the ball (e.g travel by carrying, bouncing, dribbling)
  • Use a range of tactics to keep possession of the ball and get into position to shoot or score.
  • Understand how to dodge, mark, signal for the ball and intercept.
  • Play within the rules of the game and recognise aspects that need improving.

Autumn 2 -  Movement to Music/Gymnastics / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

Spring 1 - Invasion Focus - Inventing Games / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Negotiate, plan and make collective decisions on the nature, shape and construction of the game.
  • Understand and transfer principles of play from known games to use in their own games.
  • Make up rules and be prepared to modify them to make the games more challenging and adapt in agreement with others.
  • Working co-operatively in groups of varying sizes.

Spring 2 - Net/Court/Wall Games/ Cross Country/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Use a bat to strike a ball with a degree of accuracy and control.
  • Throw and strike a ball over a range of high, low and ground level barriers to show variation in levels, speeds and directions.
  • Aim a ball over a barrier to land in spaces on the other side.
  • Understand, plan and combine skills to play 1v1 net games co[operatively with a partner and then try to make it difficult to return thur shots.
  • Understand and play a game over a low or high barrier throwing into spaces to score (1v1 or 3v3).

  • Fielding skills; Throwing, catching and movement/agility and speed with and without a ball/running between the wickets.
  • Exploring start points for overarm bowling. Technique and pitching accuracy.
  • Developing throwing accuracy on the move for fielding and tactical running between the wicket.
  • Techniques for batting through developing striking action. Tactics for best place to hit the ball.
  • Catching under pressure and running between wickets. Applying batting techniques and tactics.
  • Combining key skills of fielding, batting and bowling and applying them in a game.

Summer 2 -  Athletics / Sports Day Practice /Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Run at different speeds smoothly and with consistency
  • Demonstrate different combinations of jumps showing control, co-ordination and consistency.
  • Throw a range of objects in to a target area accurately.
  • Recognise that there are different throwing, running and jumping styles and able to choose the appropriate one for different situations.
  • Understand about pacing so they can keep going and maintain the quality of their actions.
  • Recognise that different events make different demands on the body.
  • Watch and describe specific aspects of running, throwing and jumping and suggest ways of improving.

Year 5
 

Autumn 1 - Invasion and target Ball Handling games / Cross Country/ Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Choose and use skills which meet the specific needs of the ball-handling invasion games (e.g. passing by throwing, bouncing, receiving, carrying, dribbling and shooting)
  • Understand and show how a team can retain possession and find ways of progressing towards an opponent's foal; know how to mark an opponent effectively and defend a goal.
  • Demonstrate a range of skills, using one hand or two hands, for passing and receiving: carry, bounce and dribble the ball in a controlled manner whilst moving.
  • Find and use space to help their team and use a variety of tactics to keep the ball (e.g changing speed and direction); work as a team in various small-sided ball-handling games and be able to transfer common principles of play and basic attacking strategies across the games.

Autumn 2 - Invasion games - Implement and kicking/  Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Choose and use skills which meet the specific needs of the kicking and implement invasion games (e.g passing by kicking and striking, receiving, dribbling and shooting)
  • Understand and show how a team can retain possession and find ways of progressing towards an opponent's goal: how to mark an opponent effectively and defend a goal.
  • Demonstrate a range of skills using feet or implement for passing and receiving: dribble the ball in a controlled manner whilst moving.
  • Find and use space to help their team and use a variety of tactics to keep the ball (e.g changing speed and direction) work as a team in various small-sided kicking and implement invasion games and be able to transfer common principles of play and basic attacking strategies across the games.

  • Sustain their pace over longer distances and run more rhythmically
  • Throw over arm with greater control
  • Organise themselves in small groups safely
  • Know and understand the basic principles of relay take over and take part in relays.
  • Understand and perform warm up activities
  • Watch a partner's performance. Identify good points and suggest ways of improving.

Year 6
 

Autumn 1 - Invasion and target games (netball) / Cross country / Football / Tag Rugby / Outdoor Learning / Orienteering

  • Play competitive games modified where appropriate.
  • Apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending.
