In November 2021 we helped each class plant either a Rowan or Wild Cherry Tree. Each class pledged to water and look after their tree during their time at Hayes Primary School. Nearly all the trees survived their first winter (and we replaced the ones that didn't with the spares we had planted) and May 2022, we mulched the trees with wood chip and watered them well in preparation for the summer months. We also removed the plastic sapling protectors and replaced them with canes and rainbow ribbons to improve their visibility. We also purchased a watering can for each class so that the children can water their tree regularly.
In 2022, we planted two silver birch trees near to the sand pit on the field and they have survived their first winter and are doing well!
