Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Our SENCO is Mrs Larkman, who leads provision for pupils with additional needs and those within vulnerable groups. She works closely with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time.

At Hayes Primary School, we believe it is our responsibility to secure strong progress for all pupils through high-quality teaching, carefully adapted to meet individual needs.

What is SEND?

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0–25 years (2015) states that a child has Special Educational Needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which requires special educational provision to be made for them.

A child of compulsory school age has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

• Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
• Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the educational facilities generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.

Special educational provision means educational support that is additional to, or different from, that normally available to pupils of the same age.

• All teachers are teachers of pupils with SEND.

• Strong partnerships with parents and carers are essential. We work closely with families, the Local Authority and external agencies to secure the best possible outcomes.
